Gelato vs. Ice Cream: What’s the Real Difference?

Many people think gelato is simply the Italian word for “ice cream,” but the reality is that they are two completely different experiences. At Gelato-Go Orlando, we take pride in following authentic traditions, and here’s why our gelato stands out.

1. Less Fat, More Flavor

While industrial ice cream usually has a high butterfat content (between 10% and 25%), artisanal gelato uses more milk than cream, keeping the fat between 4% and 9%. This allows your taste buds to perceive the real flavors of the ingredients, like Sicilian pistachio or Belgian chocolate, without the fatty coating that common ice cream leaves behind.

2. Dense and Silky Texture

Ice cream is churned at high speeds to incorporate a lot of air (overrun), sometimes up to 50% of its volume. Gelato is churned slowly, incorporating very little air. The result is a much denser, richer, and creamier texture.

3. The Perfect Temperature

Ice cream is served very cold, which can numb the tongue. Gelato is served at a slightly warmer temperature, which highlights its smoothness and allows the flavors to explode in your mouth from the first bite.

At Gelato-Go Orlando, we craft our gelato daily to ensure the freshness and quality that only artisanal methods can offer. Come taste the difference for yourself!
